High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. Same as everyone else's experience...came because we knew the food would be okay, waited so long for it we would've been happy eating anything. Anywhere. The crackers and such we have as car snacks looked like a viable alternative to dinner. Waitress was friendly but made 3 separate trips to the table about drinks before even taking our order, refilled them twice...still no food. Asked us at one point if we'd gotten our salads yet--well no, because we hadn't ordered any. I was amazed at how many times a person could stop by a table that hasn't been served food to check on things...because okay without any food there is really nothing to check on! Uh yeah--still alive, still hungry... Over an hour between sitting down and getting served food. Glad we don't live here and don't have to come back.

Very expensive, always crowded, tried to eat there 3 times and each time we waited over 30 minutes to get our order taken or even to sit down. We ended up leaving when we didn't even get drinks for 30 minutes AND the food was outragious. Ruby Tuesday is much better.

This was the most regretful decision of my life! Ordered my entree and adult beverage. Waited 10-15 minutes for my beverage as my server forgot about it. It was a warm beer and they blamed me for not being vocal in my assertion of my beverage. I saw it sitting waiting to be ran for atleast ten minutes. Didn't even top off the beer. It's warm and of poor quality. Demanded a full refund of entree and beverage and they refused. Will be contacting corporate. Poor experience

It's been several months since I've been here because the service was so bad. I'm disappointed to report that its only gotten worse. Came in for my birthday, service was terribly slow, we asked to have the blasting music turned down, but that never happened, then when our food started trickling in, most of our orders were wrong. After waiting 15 more minutes for a birthday brownie we finally have to and left without ever getting it. Some birthday!!! What a shame, the food is good, but because of the service I will never be back.

Recently went back and the service and food was much improved. Don't know if they have had a change in management. Food was decent and the waitress was on top of it today.

I was incredibly disappointed in this experience. We had the worst service and wait time for our food in a long time. Being a former server of 7 years, it is obvious to me what Is going on and this was a mess. To order it took 15 minutes then she didn't know what was on the French onion soup. She also was not willing to work with my vegetarian son, where in Aurora they are. She then forgot to out our order in and I over heard her say it to her manager when we asked where our food was at the 45 min mark of waiting. Then we got our food and she never came back until it was time to give the check AFTER we asked the manager for it who then went and started talking to her bartender. They Never tried to make things right and never showed they care. If you are thinking about going, DONT! Go to Starbucks across the street you will be so much better off.

Food was good, but our service was terrible! Waiter seemed clueless, spent more time sweeping the floor by our table and after what seemed like a half hour I had to ask him to check on our food. He brought two out of the four meals, swept some more and then got the other meals. Asked us if we wanted dessert before we were even done with our dinner and dropped the check off! Then to top it off he stood at the table while my husband figured out his tip! I wish I remembered his name because he sucked!

Good service by our waitress but took a while it seemed to get food/drinks. Typical Applebee's experience. Nothing too exciting, and always disappointed they only have Pepsi products.

Kudos to Molly and Jasen for great service and hospitality! Molly was our server and totally focused on giving us a great dining experience. Service for lunch was fast. Steak was very good, portabello ok. Tomato soup quite good Club sandwich very good Would come back - thanks for the great lunch on our travels!

I ordered the shrimp scampi linguine and it was seriously good. There's just the right amount of sauce, the ingredients tasted fresh and well seasoned.

A rather large group of us stopped in here after leaving a nearby bar because of horrible service. We were seated quickly and kindly attended to by all staff. The drinks were good, and the food came out quickly and tasted great! Kudos to the staff at this Applebee's for outstanding food AND service!

The food was actually better than I expected, and since I was there for lunch, it was also relatively cheap. But the service was sooooo SLOW. It seemed like there was only one waitress running around. I'm pretty sure I ate in less time than the time I spent waiting for someone to come by and take my order.

Our server Cheryl was very friendly and kind. They've got lots of pics and decorations of local school's sports teams and a homey vibe. We're out of towners and enjoyed the people watching. Music wasn't too loud, they've added some healthy food options! Yay Applebee's!

After driving all day I was happy to NOT go anywhere for dinner so we walked over from the hotel. Food and drinks were average, service was personable and helpful, not a lot of healthy options, but there are a few salads and the Thai shrimp salad was very good. Drinks were a little weak, but sufficient for the evening. Not a place for intimate conversation -- lots of tired/cranky kids and tired/cranky parents

By far the worse food and service I have ever received at a apple bees. My steak caesar salad was doused in dressing and had four pieces of steak on it, and my friends chicken on his salad smelled so bad that he didn't even eat his meal. So disappointed that we left the money on the counter and walked out. Sad.

Reviewing based on service, as food is same regardless of franchise. Appetizer came out AFTER the meal! Ridiculous. My order didn't come out as I wanted. They couldn't make a simple substitution. The manager came by later, said he would bring my missing vegetables, yet never did. Poor waiter too; he was slow and clueless.

TRAPPED IN NORTH PLATTE.....we drive to South Dakota every year and North Platte has always been our last stop before we power in...we always have trouble finding any place to eat that's decent...it was late and we surrendered to a National Chain.... WHAT A MISTAKE! we ordered some nachos for an appetizer, my wife got one of the Chicken salads, and I followed suit with a different salad combo deal.....The nachos were basically a handful of cheap corn chips a tablespoon of tri tip and some toppings...It was nasty and 10.00 bucks ... FOR REAL? our Salads were skimpy, and equally as nasty, nothing fresh at all.our server was a space cadet, almost robotic with her Corporate Sales speal, I asked about the beers that had and she was clueless....and THIS IS MY LAST ATTEMPT AT AN APPLEBEES......... HORRIBLE and this location is even More Horrible than others In my Past.... This Experience has changed our thoughts on ever stopping in North Platte Ne, AGAIN!

Tonight we went to Applebee's for dinner because it's right next to our hotel. We were greeted right away and our waitress was nice. She was quick to get our drinks and order (which is great because we have a 2.5 year old). I ordered a shrimp and chicken dinner. When my food came out it looked nothing like the picture in the menu (not nearly as pretty or appetizing). As I started to eat, I noticed a few of my shrimp looked grey in color and raw. I asked my husband who is really laid back and he confirmed they looked raw and said I should return it. I am almost nine months pregnant so raw/ grey shrimp is definitely not ok. I let our server know and she was very nice about it and asked if they could fix it or if I'd like something else. I told her I was ok, mainly because I was pretty grossed out and also because I didn't want to wait for another meal to be cooked. The manager came over to apologize and also asked if I'd like something else to eat. I told him the same thing I told the server. The manager then told me he would take care of my food ( kind of obvious right?)..... Well the bill came and they had only taken $4 off my meal that I literally had a couple bites of..... When I questioned it I was told my meal had been discounted.... Seriously? I have been in the restaurant business for 10 years and I cannot believe the way this was handled! Serving raw seafood to anyone is unacceptable none the less someone who is pregnant. Btw, two other tables near us complained about service (and lack there of).....

Stopped here tonight on road trip from Chicago to Denver. It was packed with travelers taking refuge from the strong winds, rain and thunderstorm. Both my husband & I ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon, something new. Grilled to dark, just how I like it, and sitting on a bed of fresh spinach, peas, tiny diced cucumbers, sliced/baked potatoes - so unusual - and very delicious!

Worst service ever. I don't even know how the quality of food is or how the nice the waiter/waitress was because in our 15 minutes of waiting, not a single person acknowledged or spoke to us. So, we walked out with an empty stomach and our wallets full. Thanks Applebee's for saving me money! There's your one star!

How can you go wrong with Applebee's? I thought that and ignored the reviews. First try and it took 45 minutes to get a chicken dish. I figured it had to do with it being busy. I sat at the bar and was pretty much ignored. The TV was so loud people were screaming at each other to be heard. When I asked them to turn it down the bar tender looked at me like I had three heads. I ate and left and chocked it up to better not go during a football game. Two weeks later about noon walked into the place and there were about 2 dozen people and three people at the bar. I walked up to the bar and expecting it to be clean, I mean they just opened. Nope, floor by the bar was sticky and wet. Thinking I can get past this I sit at the bar. The entire bar is the same way. When the bar tender finally came over I pointed it out she sighed, slapped a soaking wet towel on the bar and half assed wiped it down leaving it soaking wet and walked off. So did I.

Five stars for the bartenders who helped me. One for the manager who is not managing the restaurant. One for he cook, only because the potato and broccoli was edible. I'm on the road and checked into my hotel. Tired and hungry, I ordered curbside. The girl on the phone was very sweet and helpful. I arrived and when they gave me my to-go container I thought I should check it. Glad I did. It contained no utensils, no butter, no sour cream. (with a baked potato and a steak mind you.) I asked the bartender if I could get these items and she right way went back to get them. It took a while... She returned with the butter, sour cream and handed me a rolled fork and knife. Told me to take and keep them being they had no to go utensils in the back. I asked for salt and pepper packets and they tried to give me the set of grinders off the bar. I told them I didn't want to do that and I would make up my potato before I left. I should have checked my steak!... It was well, well done. I ordered medium. I ate the middle four bites as the rest wasn't chewable. Disappointed, and still hungry! Potato and veggie wasn't enough. Management please; re-train your cook and check inventory! Oh yeah, give your bartenders a raise for putting up with your bad management!

Took an hour for us to get out of there. They forgot to bring our appetizer and didn't let us know they were out of soup until the rest of our entrees were delivered. Bathroom was out of toilet paper.

I'm not a chain restaurant kind of person, but if you've been to this area you'll notice there aren't a ton of choices, however, this place was pretty awesome. The staff was helpful when the food came out pretty shitty the first time around; they replaced my entire meal with a fresher and hotter item and removed it from my bill, which I didn't even think was necessary since they fixed my problem! I was surrounded by friendly travelers and locals who kept me drinking until I almost fell down! Long Islands were like 3.50! Crazy! I loved this place and will be back for more shitty food and awesome company/drinks!

I wouldn't say that this Applebee's is any worse than the others, however, it's hard to give an establishment more than two stars when all they strive for is mediocrity. In that sense, it almost hit the mark. My cheeseburgers sliders were decent. The fries weren't too bad but they were way overseasoned. I will say that the shrimp that my sister-in-law ordered didn't look very good. She also didn't seem to enjoy them much. I can't say that the service was bad but it wasn't good. Honestly, the service matches the food.

  • Shelly S.

SERIOUSLY.........what the heck is going on with Applebees? Do you question why they're shutting down all over the place? It's not necessarily a per restaurant problem....I think it's a corporate problem....standards are low!!! Just not what they used to be :( On our annual trip to North Platte, we have our favorite places to dine, and Applebees is NOT one of them. On this night, 6/5/13 we gave in and went because of timing (and the 5 of us wanted a cocktail). Although greeted with a smile by the hostess, our server treated us more like an inconvenience to her. In fact, while we were still eating (w/forks in hand) she asked if we needed take-home boxes!! Ah, no, we're still eating. Although It was obvious she needed to get her table/tickets closed out, the restaurant didn't close for another hour. I questioned (with humor) the amount of 'liquid' in my martini glass, "it literally looked as though someone has taken a drink from it" I said... she went on about how the drink consisted of 2 oz of alcohol and they couldn't serve more....blah blah blah...... ok then, get smaller glasses! Don't serve a drink that's half full. When I ordered the second martini, a manager brought it over making her presence known but didn't say a word, was that your apology or intimidation? Food was mediocre....but again, it's Applebees. All we could talk about the next day was how we wanted to "yelp" our experience..... so there ya have it!

I don't know if its just the town or if Applebee's standards really are THAT bad. Horrible service, got fiesta lime chicken which consisted of chicken next to some very dry rice with cheese sprinkled on top.. No pico or limes. Our host did more than the waitress, and when we asked for a manager the waitress reluctantly got him. He was very unprofessional, his shirt half unbuttoned and chest hair hanging out, like I want to see that? We told him of our service and being over priced for a substitute and he left to go re-ring our check, we heard the waitress say "well APPARENTLY there's a problem at that table" as all the girls sitting there turn to stare at us... Like REALLY?? After that, we tell the manager her remarks and he basically calls us liars and proceeds to tell us about how hard his job is, if he's making correct decisions, blah blah blah. Like I care at this point. Will never go back.

I like Applebees and this one just continued the love! The food was good, my server Scotty was great, I don't have a bad thing to say about this place. Although I do crack up when they sing the birthday song to customers, if only because it reminds me of a scene from that movie, "Waiting..."

I would like to give this no star at all. After a very long day of travel we wanted a nice meal, usually that is what we get at Applebee's. Not this time.......the service was terrible, we had to ask for silverware, the serving was small and had to be sent back to be re cooked. The host and waitress were very unprofessional and sloppy in their dress and deportment. Our order was incomplete and when the waitress finally brought our milk we were done eating and ready to leave. They both also kept saying "I'm so sorry." Somehow, I don't believe they meant that. This is the worst Applebee's we have ever been in.

Cold steak. Barely cooked carrot kits. Very tough ribs. Husbands fish dinner "wasn't better than anything out of box from Walmart." Even Kraft Mac and cheese was dry. So 4 out of 5 meals were not up to applebees standards And it took a long time to get food. On the other hand the waitress and manager were accommodating. However in the end the manager gave us less than 10% off our bill it was very disappointing

Surprised by the high quality of the food on the seasonal menu. All six in our group enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent and the decor was amazing. Not your usual Applebee's on a Tuesday night. Oh BTW, Tuesday is karaoke night. Stop by, I think you'll love it.

We are tourists in town and realized at 10pm Sunday evening, that Applebee's was the only thing in town open aside from fast food. We ordered the curbside takeout and went to the bar to pick it up. The bartender was great, knew immediately that I was waiting for take out and remembered my order. We ordered A1 for our steak and he put in a small bottle for us to take - really accommodating. Unfortunately, when we got bak to our hotel and unpacked our meal, it was incorrect, Applebee's was closed and they had charged us for a loaded baked potato that we did not receive. It was late and of course I was not going to open up all the containers to see if it was correct before I left Applebee's. We were disappointed. We wouldn't have chosen Applebee's first anyway and this just sealed the deal.

At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak.
